I call it Beard Breed -Tips On How To Grow Your Dream Beard

Beard grooming is trending!

We’ve come to the era where every guy wants to keep a beard, an era where bearded men are seen as handsome and fashionable. Ladies now find men with beards attractive, sexy and masculine. Yeah I said it masculine, masculinity and having one goes hand in hand, because what makes us masculine is testosterone. Testosterone is the male sex hormones, which is responsible for most of our masculine features, which are our male stature, pubic hairs, loud and deep voices, facial hair, and our sexual drive.

In other words testosterone is what makes a male.

Men with Beards

Most people call it beard gang, well I don’t believe it’s a gang. I think of it as a culture or a breed.

Beard breed or culture, that sounds better.

I am going to divide this post into two parts.

The first part is how to grow a beard and the second part is how to groom it. The both go hand in hand.

Mindset is everything you need to grow a beard. You can’t achieve this if you keep thinking you can’t succeed. The mindset includes; the readiness, the will and the dedication to go all the way in growing a beard.

Patience is the KEY. If you have no patience then you might be making a mistake trying to grow one. All you need to do is stop thinking you want to grow a beard, just simply stop shaving. A change in mindset would stop the urge to shave your facial hair and allow you to grow it.

Rome wasn’t built in one day, as such studies have shown that the average growth rate of beards is in the range of 0.5-1 inch per month. Depending on your genetic make up, testosterone levels and some other factors, it may be slower or faster.

In other words, if you want to grow beards, LEAVE IT ALONE. There is a myth that “the more you shave, the faster it grows” that is a trick old wives use on their husbands to make them shave.

However, the truth is if you shave, you are only prolonging the Time your beard becomes full.

In the first four weeks, your beads would look rough, scanty and patchy. It may look like that but, after eight weeks, the beard grows out.

It will take at least 3 months for the average person to get a full beard. So the key is allowing the beard grow.

As you allow your beards to grow, you start to notice itches around the beard. This itch is only temporary, you can reduce the itch by using beard oils. Beard oil has some anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties that would reduce the itch. This itch would naturally stop after a month.

Man with Beard

The level of testosterone in your body determines your beard growth, that’s why you see variations in the growth rates in men. The higher your testosterone levels the faster the growth rate.

But then again you don’t need to jack up your testosterone levels by taking steroids due to their side effects. They are natural ways of boosting your testosterone level.

  • Getting enough sleep and reducing stress
  • Working out – cardio and weightlifting, weightlifting boosts up your testosterone levels more than cardio
  • Decrease sugar intake
  • Taking zinc supplements

This is a very important aspect because the skin is just like the soil on which the hair grows. Skin care helps to unclog and stimulate hair follicles allowing the beards to grow.it includes;

  • Washing the face attest twice daily with warm water
  • Don’t use harsh soaps that strip off the oils off the face, I personally use Castile soap or beard wash to wash the face
  • Scrub at least twice a week
  • Use mild facial cleansers attest once a week

Beard oils have been shown to increase the rate of beard growth, preventing a patchy look and give it that thick look. Especially jojoba based beard oil products.

Getting a good diet, which contains proteins, biotin and vitamins would help increase the rate of growth. Examples are meat, eggs, chicken and most fruits

When I say supplements I don’t mean steroids, I mean vitamins and mineral supplements.

  • The necessary vitamins you need are Vitamins A, B, E, C.
  • Biotin supplements also helps to increase the rate of beard growth.
  • Zinc and magnesium supplements also increase the rate of growth.

Following these tips, the odds of growing a beard would always be in your favor

I believe this is the simple part , the challenge is grooming and maintaining it.

In my next post I would talk about tips and the common mistakes people make while grooming their beards.

Thank you and am out

Our youngest have been growing a beard for sometime but has one area which doesn’t seem to grow. Such a shame as he looks so good with one. Plus he has grown his hair and can now tie it up. Perfect look for Uni. Love it.
